our teaching philosophy

Veritas Church is a body of believers that are longing to grow in the love and grace of our God, through our Lord Jesus Christ. A primary distinctive of this church is our endeavor to declare to the people the whole counsel of God illustrated to us by Paul in Acts 20:27.  This means that we will cover all of the books in the Bible, Genesis through Revelation. The teaching ministry at Veritas is systematic in nature and style.  Nothing is skipped; everything is talked about. Topics are generated from the passage that we are reading, rather than just picking a topic and finding verses to go along with it.
This doesn't mean, however, that we will be only teaching straight through from Genesis through Revelation in order, nor does it mean that we will never stop and explore a particular topic. We don't seek to fall into strict legalism where we analyze every sermon to see if it was homiletically correct and expositionally presented.
For the most part, we seek to follow the example set by Isaiah who said, "But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little" Isa. 28:13. These verses are describing the people's reaction to Isaiah's style of teaching. They were making fun of his method, but it was an effective method. They were complaining about him, mockingly saying that he ought to go back and teach the children because his teaching was "precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little." They said these words in derision. Yet, it's so important to take the people through the Word, line upon line, precept upon precept. When we do, we are delivering the whole counsel of God.
We believe in the gifts and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and we believe it is also important to have a strong emphasis on Biblical teaching.  We look to the Word to guide our experiences with the Holy Spirit. We value the gifts of the Holy Spirit and believe that they are available and valid today. At Veritas you find the teaching of the Word, and an open heart to the work of the Holy Spirit. It is this balance that makes Veritas Church distinct and unique.
